All ready to start on another painting. The reference photo was taken this past summer while painting in and around Jasper with my wife. 18 x 24 oil. The middle photo is the view from our studio. I feel very fortunate to have this space to create in. Excited.

Island View Beach Park - 111717 - Out with the Al Frescoes. 8x10, 2.5 hrs. Beautiful morning. Fall colours: some bright and vivid and some dead or muted. Good practice.
Another fun Study. I kept the right side lighter - experimenting with the value range really. I sit looking at it now I see things I'd like to change. I have a very critical eye which has the potential for me to pick apart my work until I get sick of it. So, I have given up on perfection (at last), I stop and I move on. 8x10.
Fun study from a photo I took awhile ago. I like the shadows cast by the trees. 9 hours to complete. This feels more like a rendering than a painting. Interesting without any painterly umph.
Something new on the board. 10x20. Canvas, which isn't my preferred substrate, but, I told my self I had to use the supplies that were in my studio before I buy more. I am intrigued by trees, forests and the light in and around them. I'm focusing on the composition which is defined by the trees and their shadows. I'll post when I'm done. The goal is this week. I don't prime the canvas with a colour anymore. I saw it being done so I primed a few canvas's. I now used clear gesso on wood panel. The colour of the wood is a warm base on which build. I took the picture at a golf course by my house this past summer. I take my own reference photos now, I used to paint from the web but I find it cramps the creativity using someone else's vision.
Graphite on Mylar - Love this combination. The Mylar takes the graphite well with the ability to erase. The lines stay true. I can create great variance of tone. All of which I haven't come to with paper or board - yet. 8.5x11. I scanned this image which has added to the detail. I lose that when taking a photo of my work.
